Anti-gun senator mocked for lying about suppressors

Like most gun-hating liberals, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) has no idea what she’s talking about. Last week, Gillibrand tweeted that suppressors — which anti-gun liberals like to call “silencers” — are dangerous because they “make it hard for police to solve gun crimes”:

There’s so much incorrect with Gillibrand’s fearmongering that it’s hard to begin picking it apart, but let’s start with the fact that suppressors don’t silence gun shots. Per The Federalist’s Sean Davis (via Hot Air):

A decent suppressor for an AR-15 (.223/5.56mm) can reduce the sound of that rifle being fired by 30-35 dB. Thus, a quality suppressor can turn what would’ve been a 165 dB, eardrum-bursting gunshot into a mere 135 dB gunshot — roughly the same volume as a jackhammer you might see a construction worker using. Remember that pain and permanent hearing damage begins at 140 dB.

If that’s not proof enough, here’s a nice little video explaining how suppressors work:

Furthermore, as clearly seen in the video, suppressors make guns much heavier and harder to conceal. Which is probably why just .003 percent of the 1.3 million silencers registered in the U.S. are used in crimes each year.

In other words, criminals aren’t running around committing crimes with suppressors. And even if they were, they wouldn’t make it any harder for police to solve gun crimes. Suppressors dampen sound, not ballistics and forensics.

For her sake, I hope Gillibrand isn’t so dumb that she actually believes what she tweeted. For America’s sake, I’m glad the NRA exists to protect the Second Amendment from morons like Gillibrand.

The Demorats can’t get their stories on subject; the no nothings go around making statements that cannot be backed up!

  • Dave from San Antonio

The vast majority of anti-gunners…don’t really know much about the subject…yet they all try to come off as experts on the subject. Being “anti-gun”…how, if they are in gov’t….live up to their oath to defend the Constitution?

  • Jack Leonard

The dumbocrats are not at all interested in facts. They only want to spout their twisted ideology.

  • M40

Democrats are knee-jerk reactionaries. Their ideology is based on feelings, not facts. Their entire world view relies on an imaginary right to raid other people’s wallets, and then play “Robin Hood” with the pilfered proceeds. They don’t like the idea of a gun coming between them and your wallet.

  • Tom Farrell

YES, Gillibrand IS that dumb. She is so dumb that she doesn’t know that when someone leaves or retires from the military they are a now a civilian. She is the ONLY person on the committee that DID NOT vote to confirm General Mattis as Secretary of Defense because she believes the military should be run by civilians. Furthermore, her stupidity tells everyone else in the country about the people of New York of which I, unfortunately, live. It tells them that New Yorkers are just as dumb as Gillibrand for reelecting her and that other dumbass Schumer. I, however, am not one of the dumb New Yorkers, I DID NOT vote for either of them. In fact, I’m all for term limits for ALL elected officials. Drain the Swamp on a regular basis.

Another ignorant liberal twatwaffle ! You take the dumbocratic women politicians and I think we should never have given them the “vote” !

  • John Richmond

So maybe suppressors are just a way to sell more guns? It wasn’t Obama after all?

  • reagangs

Never used’em. Not even in ‘Nam.

  • samw

The quietest with suppressors are subsonic, that limits the practical range.
    300AAC Blackout 200gr subsonic
    60gr 22Lr subsonic

  • Allen Benge

Another anti-gunner trying to sound edumacated. A suppressor has absolutely nothing to do with the police solving any crime. Firstly, a suppressor has no effect on the markings on slugs or casings that allow firearms to be traced. This person has apparently gotten her information about suppressors from movies and television, where suppressors are always depicted as making a gunshot sound like opening a soda can. The report of a firearm with a suppressor is still identifiable as a gunshot, but is not as loud, being reduced by about 30 dB. Suppressors would be a boon to hunters and other firearms enthusiasts by reducing the damage to hearing such as I suffer today. I have been deaf in the right ear since infancy, due to a cold, but firearms reports have reduced the hearing in my left ear to about 20%. Access to suppressors would have prevented this loss.

Not just your wallet Jack your LIFE !! SCUMMYCRITES want total control over everyone and gun control is the first step to enslave the population

“To disarm the people… was the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” — George Mason, speech of June 14, 1788

Every Communist must grasp the truth, ‘Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.’ — Mao Tse-tung, 1938, inadvertently endorsing the Second Amendment.

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. – Adolph Hitler, April 11 1942
The right to buy weapons is the right to be free. — A.E. Van Vogt, “The Weapon Shops Of Isher”, ASF December 1942

Rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon — so long as there is no answer to it — gives claws to the weak. — George Orwell, “You and the Atom Bomb”, 1945

Let us hope our weapons are never needed –but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government — and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws.” — Edward Abbey, “Abbey’s Road”, 1979

Wrong Bullets are far faster than sound hence the word supersonic Seldom does the one who has been shot hears the report.

  • magno et malo lupo

What I cannot understand is why anyone would want to waste an expensive projectile pushing it subsonic a complete antithesis of its design. The invention of smokeless propellants and bullets with greater ballistic coefficients makes one wonder why Personally I would want to be as far away as possible and still be able to dispatch an adversary slower subsonic rounds with diminished range do not provide that safety net

  • George Rowe

That the word “silencer” is being used suggests that even many gun owners are ignorant of the subject.
